Set Up SimpleX in 5 Minutes

The most private messenger. No phone number, no user ID, no metadata.

~/simplex/setup

$ whoami

No identifier. Exactly as it should be.

$ [1/4] simplex --install

iOS: Search App Store for "SimpleX Chat"

Android: Play Store or F-Droid

Desktop: simplex.chat/downloads

Select "Create your profile" on first launch

$ [2/4] profile --create --name "Your_Name"

Enter a display name (can be anything)

Optional: Add a profile picture

Important: This name is NOT your ID

SimpleX has no user IDs - only temporary addresses

$ [3/4] contact --add --method qr|link

Tap "+" in the bottom right

Select "Add contact"

Option A: Show your QR code for scanning

Option B: Share your invitation link

The link is one-time - invalid after use

$ [4/4] settings --privacy --max

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security

Enable: "SimpleX Lock" (app password)

Enable: "Disappearing messages" as default

Disable: "Allow direct messages" (optional)

Check: "Incognito mode" for anonymous chats

Your most private messenger is ready.
